Gary Hawes

Michigan Christian Campus Ministries came into existence in 1969. Originally it was Christian university students who brought the need to the attention of churches in Michigan. Students wanted help and encouragement in living out their faith on the university campus. They felt that a minister who could focus on students and their unique needs was the answer. They convinced several churches that this need was real and should be a priority. Elders, ministers and mission committees responded. I was called to be the first full-time campus minister in the state of Michigan in September, 1969.

I came to East Lansing and Michigan State University with two goals in mind. I wanted the campus ministry to win as many lost college students to Christ as possible....
