THE MCCM STORY

Michigan Christian Campus Ministry came into existence in 1969. Originally it was Christian university students who brought the need to the attention of churches in Michigan. Students wanted help and encouragement in living out their faith on the university campus. They felt that a minister who could focus on students and their unique needs was the answer. They convinced several churches that this need was real and should be a priority. Elders, ministers and mission committees responded. I was called to be the first full-time campus minister in the state of Michigan in September, 1969.
I came to East Lansing and Michigan State University with two goals in mind. I wanted the campus ministry to win as many lost college students to Christ as possible. Also, I wanted to train Christian students for a lifetime of Christian service. I didn't know how long it would take, but I was committed to the task. Many times over the years we have been tempted to get sidetracked and become involved in other goals. We never have! Our two goals continue to motivate us and determine everything we do in campus ministry.
Over the years we have established ministries on other campuses in Michigan, one in Indiana and several in the Philippines, yet our two goals in campus ministry remain consistent: to win lost students to Christ and to train students to be Christian leaders. I continue to delight in the privilege of sharing Christ on campus.
