Mark Christian, Featured Speaker

Mark was born and raised in South Bend, Indiana.  He graduated from Great Lakes Bible College (now Great Lakes Christian College or GLCC) with a Bachelors degree in Religious Education with a Christian Ministries Major and a New Testament Minor.  His interest in Interpersonal and Public Communication led him to pursue post-graduate studies at Central Michigan University, where he earned a Master of Arts degree. In addition, he is pursuing his Doctorate in Strategic Leadership from Regent University.

He recently completed a 21 year ministry with the First Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.  Currently, he is teaching and serving at GLCC as Vice President of Academic Affairs and Professor of Interpersonal and Organizational Communication.  Mark, and his wife Heather, have been married for 20 years and they have two boys, Alex (15) and Braedan (4).  He admits that, “My family teaches me more about God, ministry and life than any book or class.”

Lake Ann Camp

Located near Traverse City, Lake Ann Camp is the perfect place to walk with God. From the lakeshore to the chapel, you'll find no better setting to engage God.
During free times, you can just relax, enjoy one of the many free activities, or experience an optional adventure activity for an additional fee: Jacob's Ladder, the Flying Squirrel, the Challenge Course or High Ropes Course, Paintball, or The Tower.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I get to the retreat?
Your campus minister may be arranging carpools, or to travel together. Please check with leaders at your campus for information about rides and carpools. Be sure to check the appropriate boxes on the registration form if you need a ride or can provide a ride for others.
There are two maps that may help you get to Lake Ann Camp:
      Michigan map with routes.
      Map to the camp.
You may prefer to create a map from your location using Google Maps: [click here.]

What time do we need to get there? How long does it take to get there?
You should plan to arrive at Lake Ann by 7pm. Registration will officially go from 6 to 8pm. You should plan to be checked in and settled in your bunk by 8pm.
Travel time varies depending on where you are coming from. It wouldn't hurt to allow 30 extra minutes for travel, the last time I went there I got lost.
If you arrive before dark, it will be easier to find your way around.

Is there electricity? Should I bring my blow-dryer?
There is electricity in all the main buildings... it's called a "camp" but it's also a lot like a retreat center. They have indoor running water, flush toilets, and all the modern conveniences.

What kind of clothes should I bring? What should I pack?
You should pack clothes that are comfortable and allow you to participate in a range of activities. Since the weather is cooling off, you should probably pack warm things, layers of clothing, a hat and mittens, as well as t-shirts... just in case it warms up.
I would also bring toiletries, bedding and a pillow, a towel, any medications or other personal items you require. Bring your Bible, a pen, and notebook. You might also find a flashlight to be handy.

Do I need to bring extra money?
You should have money for your meals while you travel to and from the retreat.
There are optional activities offered during free time on Saturday. Some of these activities have an additional cost, which ranges from $8 - $20. Otherwise, while you are at the camp, all your other needs will be provided.
You may also want to bring money for an offering to be collected on Sunday morning.

What time is the retreat over? When will I get back to campus?
The retreat will officially end after brunch on Sunday. Brunch will be served at noon. You will likely need some time after brunch to pack up your things and help clean your cabin.
